Description
Sweet Iron bits are known for mouthpieces that have a sweet taste. The bits are anatomically shaped and are available in many types and sizes.
This single-jointed snaffle contains rings made of solid stainless steel and a mouthpiece of mild steel combined with a Sweet Iron layer on the mouthpiece (blue). Saliva production is further encouraged by the Sweet Iron layer on the mouthpiece. When this material reacts with moisture, warmth and air it oxidises and develops a sweet-tasting surface rust. This helps with acceptance of the bit. Eventually the blue colour disappears, but the taste of the surface rust remains.
The anatomic shape follows the form of the horse's mouth, which enables gentle and even pressure distribution. The Magic System combines the flexibility of a jointed bit with the control of a mullen mouth. The exclusive design helps prevent injuries to the tongue and palate thanks to the locking function. The mouthpiece of a single-jointed snaffle moves at one point. It acts on the tongue, the bars, the corners of the mouth and sometimes also on the palate of the horse. When a rein aid is given the bit takes on a V-shape. Because this mouthpiece has only one movable point, the tongue lies freer than for example with a double-jointed bit. The mouthpiece is 14 mm thick and the bit rings have a diameter of 65 mm.
An eggbutt snaffle has rings that cannot rotate freely. Aids therefore act more directly. This type of bit is generally well accepted because the mouthpiece sits relatively firmly in the mouth.
